1/11/08 - 2/03/08 -The creative minds of Cirque du Soleil have succeeded in making a funeral, of all things, a festive event! The touring show, Corteo, premieres in San Diego on January 11, 2008 for a limited engagement under the trademark blue-and-yellow big top at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Described by the Los Angeles Times as "celestial entertainment for all ages," Corteo is a joyous procession or a festive parade imagined by a clown. The engaging clown pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over by quietly caring angels. The music, by turns lyrical and playful, carries Corteo through a timeless celebration in which illusion teases reality. Corteo brings together more than 60 artists from 16 different countries to explore classic and contemporary circus arts and theatre in an innovative way. Even the big top seating has been re-invented to create an intimate setting like no other. The desire to surprise and move the audience is a big part of the inspiration behind Corteo. Corteo is one of 15 unique and distinctive shows that Cirque du Soleil is currently presenting around the world.
